As NRSA expands its digital initiatives, we are seeking a visionary and technically skilled Lead Mobile Application Developer to lead the development of the NRSA Mobile App and help shape the organization’s technology strategy.

Position Overview

The Lead Mobile Application Developer is a volunteer leadership position responsible for overseeing NRSA’s technology vision, digital platforms, and software development initiatives.

This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic planning. The LMAD will guide the architecture, development, security, scalability, and long-term sustainability of NRSA’s digital ecosystem while mentoring volunteer developers and technology contributors.

The ideal candidate is passionate about technology for social impact and has experience leading software projects, mobile application development, and digital innovation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Leadership

• Develop and implement NRSA’s technology strategy and digital transformation roadmap.
• Advise the Board and leadership team on technology opportunities, risks, and innovations.
• Establish technology standards, development processes, and best practices.
• Identify emerging technologies that can strengthen road safety initiatives.

Mobile Application Leadership

• Lead the architecture, development, and deployment of the NRSA Mobile App.
• Oversee feature planning, development priorities, and release schedules.
• Ensure applications are scalable, secure, user-friendly, and maintainable.
• Review code quality and technical decisions.

Team Leadership

• Recruit, mentor, and coordinate volunteer developers, designers, and technical contributors.
• Foster collaboration among cross-functional teams.
• Conduct technical reviews and provide guidance to development teams.
• Promote a culture of innovation, learning, and continuous improvement.

Platform Development

Oversee the development of digital solutions such as:

• Road Safety Rewards Platform
• Driver and Rider Safety Challenges
• Community Reporting Systems
• Volunteer Management Platforms
• Learning and Certification Modules
• Sponsor and Partner Engagement Systems
• Road Safety Data Collection and Analytics
• Donation and Campaign Transparency Dashboards

Security and Compliance

• Ensure data privacy, cybersecurity, and secure software development practices.
• Implement appropriate backup, disaster recovery, and risk management procedures.
• Promote compliance with applicable data protection regulations and organizational policies.

Qualifications

Required

• Proven experience in software development or technology leadership.
• Experience developing and deploying mobile applications.

• Ability to work effectively in a remote and volunteer-driven environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Passion for leveraging technology to create positive social impact.

Preferred

• Experience leading development teams.
• Startup, civic-tech, NGO, or social impact technology experience.
• Experience building scalable digital platforms.
• Experience managing open-source or volunteer technology communities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Expected Time Commitment

• Approximately 5–10 hours per week.
• Participation in leadership and planning meetings.
• Technical oversight of development activities.
• Additional involvement during major development milestones and product launches.
